The WZB library is a resource for professionals working and conducting research here. Most of our collection is open shelf and is housed in the eight storey "Library Tower."

The library collection includes around 150,000 volumes of social, political and economic professional literature. Among these are more than 14,200 WZB research publications and ca. 480 current serials. The entire collection is also available on the web through our online catalog.

Library services are orientated toward the structure and content of the research conducted at the WZB. Additionally, library support services and research consultations are part of the services offered.

The library has an annual budget of 272,000 ¤ and has 6 permanent staff positions.

Visiting researchers are welcome to use the facilities for research, reading and copying needs, Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm. A staff member is always available to answer questions and offer support.

Collection

Books and Multiple Volume Works

At present, our collection includes more than 100,000 monographs and multiple volume works, included among these is "grey" literature (conference reports, university papers, etc.) and reference materials.


Journals

All current journal titles (ca. 480) are listed in the WZB catalog. It is possible to research journals by title and find out if the journals are among those we currently subscribe to, the initial date of our subscription, alternative locations where the journal can be found and if the subscription has been discontinued.


WZB Research Documents

Research documentation for the WZB consists of more than 14,200 titles and includes:

  • a description of the entire series of WZB (papers, discussion papers, preprints, reprints) since the institute's founding. Most of these documents have both German and English abstracts.
  • Journal articles, individual articles out of collected works and "grey" literature, from WZB researchers that was published during their time in residence here.
These papers and articles are in a closed-shelf location and are for library use only. If there is an article which you would like to have copied please contact one of our librarians. Additional publications from WZB researchers can be found in the general "books" database. The books themselves can be found in the "Library Tower" and are available for loan.
